ALPHA Center

We would like to take a moment to applaud and thank the dedicated board and staff of the ALPHA Center for the services it provides this community.

The ALPHA Center, which stands for “All Life’s Problems Have Answers,” has outgrown its present facilities and is planning to build a new facility here in Camden. The center provides a wide variety of services, including youth arbitration, tobacco and alcohol education programs, pre-trial intervention, adult drug court, community based treatment and criminal domestic violence programs, employment assistance, offender-based treatment and gambling addiction programs, an impaired driving program and a substance abuse professional program as well as a variety of mental health services and even marriage counseling.

This organization, for all its great work, often flies under the radar. We understand people don’t usually want to acknowledge such things as substance abuse, gambling, criminal domestic violence and other such problems exist. But the fact that the ALPHA Center is in serious need of expansion is proof enough they do -- and we need to continue to meet those challenges with the compassionate solutions the ALPHA Center offers.

The ALPHA Center is seeking state funds for this project and has a better chance of securing those funds if local governments can show some financial support. ALPHA Center representatives recently went before Camden City Council to ask for funding; they will undoubtedly approach the other municipal and county government bodies within the Center’s service area. While we acutely understand the pressures local governments are under these days, we hope these governing bodies will support the ALPHA Center’s latest effort.
