We would like to offer our hearty congratulations and deep gratitude to the outstanding group of Kershaw County School District arts teachers who were recognized by the Kershaw County Board of School Trustees Tuesday night.

It is said that the arts are “the bread of life.” We believe that to be very true; indeed, we believe the arts are vital to a complete, well-rounded education and ultimately, a happier and more fulfilled life. Sadly, in hard economic times, the arts are generally the first to suffer funding cutbacks, making this important aspect of our children’s education that much more difficult for them to obtain.

But this group of teachers did a little more than provide that oh so important “bread of life” to their students; they brought home the bacon to help pay for it, securing some $160,000 in S.C. Dept. of Education and S.C. Arts Commission grant funds for the district. In fact, according to KCSD Superintendent Dr. Frank Morgan, thanks to the efforts of these teachers, KCSD obtained more arts grant funds this year than any other school district in South Carolina.

Again, a big thanks to all of our teacher -- and an especially big thanks for this group’s outstanding accomplishments!
