The ALPHA Behavioral Health Center has been doing a lot of good in Kershaw, Lee and Chesterfield counties for many years, serving at the forefront of the war against alcohol, drug and tobacco addiction.

The ALPHA Center received a much needed boost yesterday -- to the tune of $1 million -- thanks to efforts by Sen. Vincent Sheheen and Rep. Laurie Funderburk. With $4 million in state funds earmarked for combatting the opioid crisis, they were able to persuade their colleagues in the S.C. legislature that the ALPHA  Center was an appropriate and vital provider of such services.

This money will help the ALPHA Center build a new treatment facility as well as renovate its administrative offices.  While the ALPHA Center is in no way finished with its fundraising efforts for this facility, the funds Sen. Sheheen and Rep. Funderburk worked so hard to secure for the organization is an extraordinary and very welcome addition.

So thanks to all involved, and keep up the great work for our community.
