Editorial: Go vote

Today is Election Day. We hope everyone will take the time to get out and exercise your right to vote.

True, many of the elections we will see on ballots here in Kershaw County will only have one candidate, because those elections were pretty much all decided in the primary elections back in June.

Vote anyway.

Some people may try to tell you your vote doesn’t matter. But that’s only going to remain true if you don’t vote at all. Or to look at it another way, if your vote doesn’t really matter, then why are so many people trying to talk you into voting for them?

The fact is, it does matter. Your vote is your voice. Suffrage is not only the most sacred right of citizenship in this country; it is also the most important responsibility. If you want good leadership and responsible, accountable government, then you need to vote, and vote responsibly.

The system is only as good as what we insist upon through voting. If we don’t vote, or we vote irresponsibly, then we can expect garbage results. If we get out and vote, then we show those who don’t seem to take us seriously that we do, in fact, mean business.

It really is that simple.
