Right on, Mr. Cahn! I couldn’t agree more with the May 5 column, “Reading makes you well-rounded.”

Many conversations about reading revolve around the benefits for children, but for adults, it can be easy to get distracted by life (or Netflix!) and lose sight of how reading propels intellectual and emotional growth no matter what your age. Reading engages your mind in ways that video does not, yet it simultaneously provides your mind with deep relaxation and a respite from stress. It’s quite magical to me how simple words on a page can accomplish all of that.

May I add that not only can you pick up a book from the library or bookstore, but if you love reading on your tablet or phone, you can also download books from Kershaw County Library. We have ebooks and audiobooks available from both Hoopla Digital and Jasmine Digital Library, all for free with your library card.

And if you don’t like reading? I’ll bet you haven’t stumbled upon the right books to interest you. Drop by the library and let us help you find something that you can’t put down!
