Writer disagrees with cartoon

At last, the United States is making a stand against South Korea’s determination to have nuclear weapons that will reach the United States.  The cartoon by Gary Markstein in the Chronicle on 8/4/17 leads one to believe that Markstein could sympathize with Kim Jong Un.  Putting a President of the United States in such a cartoon, be it a political statement or not, was in extremely poor taste; publishing such a cartoon in a quality newspaper was in equally poor taste.

The President of the United States, elected by most States IS Donald Trump. Regardless of my political beliefs, this President should not suffer belittlement in the name of free speech or comedy. Those who do so (in my opinion) are aiding and abetting those who would destroy the good life we enjoy with our freedoms and lack of government interference.   I sincerely hope and Pray to God that my ten grandchildren and their grandchildren can enjoy the wonderful life that you and I have enjoyed without having to depend upon government dole.

It is extremely difficult for me to believe that so many citizens of such a historically significant United States would destroy its history; forget its history; change its history, forget what the Fourth of July is about and not realize that Socialism has failed worldwide and the Socialistic countries remaining must depend upon a capitalistic country (the U. S.)  to exist. England and France have practically shouted this to the world.

Americans and the media (which includes the Chronicle-Independent, Camden, S.C.) must quit demeaning our president. A media who accepts the people’s will -- and supports that will -- could only bring progress for a democracy we love. People would not be able to see such drivel as the Gary Markstein cartoon if it were not for the media.
