County is an efficient team

I write to commend our fine county staff. Team Kershaw, led by Mr. Carpenter, delivered a formidable one-two punch Tuesday night that foretells good things yet to come.  It was clear that county staff stepped up to the task in budget years 2016-17 as challenging “years of project execution”.

First, the annual audit was delivered.  As in FY 16, Kershaw County received the highest AA rating. The auditing official, Marc Wood, cited “no findings” and highest ratings across all accounts: an audit that was top-drawer quality in what was a fluid fiscal time where many items went unfunded and finances were tight.

Second, Mr. Carpenter reported progress to date on a dizzying list of projects now underway or recently completed. Consider the scale and scope of these management tasks:

• Completion of the new CCTC for a trained and ready work force.

• Completion of vital improvements to solid waste on a County-wide basis.

• Transition to a fully functional EMS ambulance service, to name a few; and now carrying forward in the new calendar year ... new sewer and ambulance stations.

I am confident there will be no break in the New Year from focused execution and watchfulness -- in short, a well-run, fiscally responsible county team and in a manner consistent with highest standards.
