Led by a team-best sixth-place finish from senior 160-pounder Jacob Carrron, the Lugoff-Elgin wrestling team finished in 22nd place in last weekend’s Southern Slam hosted by Eastside High school.

The Demons, who host Rock Hill and Spring Valley tonight at 6 p.m. inside the L-E Wellness Center, received 16 points from Carron, who finished the two-day event with a 4-3 record including three pins. Senior heavyweight Seth Branham went 4-2 with three pins and scored 15 points for Ted Monroe’s charges who finished with 67 points.

Georgia high school power Buford won the title with 184 points. Tournament host and defending South Carolina 4A state champion Eastside was the top Palmetto State finisher in the field with 145 points which was good for fourth place in the top-heavy field of some 40 programs.

L-E 132-pound senior Devin Wilson added seven points to the Demons’ total from his three wins which included a pin and one via decision.
