Please join the South Carolina Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation for the annual Boykin Spring Fling Untimed Trail Ride on Saturday, April 29. Riders will have access to the rolling fields, pine plantations, and pristine forested trails of historic Cantey Lane Farm and other nearby private property. The ride includes both a short loop and long loop and is suited for English and Western riders of all skill levels. Lunch will be provided for all participants.

Proceeds from this unique event benefit the South Carolina Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and the Palmetto Pony Club. The SCTRF provides a safe and secure future for retired Thoroughbred race horses at Wateree River Correctional Institute and an innovative groom training program for Wateree inmates designed to teach them all aspects of equine care and prepare them for life after incarceration. Over the years, graduates of the program have gone on to active, productive lives in the community. The Palmetto Pony Club works with enthusiasts of all ages to promote sportsmanship, stewardship, and leadership through riding and proper care of horses. The Palmetto Pony Club serves youth in Kershaw, Sumter, Lee and Richland counties through a variety of educational programs and activities.

Riders will be asked to wear proper headgear, sign a release, provide a negative Coggins, and carry a working cell phone. Ample parking is available for horse trailers. No alcohol, smoking, or camping will be permitted. For more information and online registration, check out the SCTRF at www.trfsc.org. Also, like South Carolina Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation on Facebook for ongoing updates on our horses and programs. For questions about the ride and SCTRF sponsorships, contact William B. Cox at (803) 234-0034 or Judy Ferrell at (803) 669-4499.
