KC wrestlers vying for state tourney berths

CAMDEN’S HUNTER MCCOY WILL wrestle on his own mat in this weekend’s AAA Upper State tournament which opens tonight at Camden High School.

All three Kershaw County high school wrestling teams will have wrestlers trying for a spot in next week’s South Carolina High School League State Individual Championships in Anderson in this weekend’s state qualifying tournaments.

Here is the information on each of the three events:

AAA Upper State Tournament: Camden High will host the AAA Upper State qualifier on Friday and Saturday inside the Dog Pound. All 14 Bulldog wrestlers have qualified for the event.

The first round matches will begin tonight at 5 p.m. on four mats with the quarterfinals slated to start at 7 p.m.

The wrestling resumes Saturday with the first round consolation matches at 8:30 a.m. followed by the second round consolation matches at 9:30 a.m. The semifinals and the consolation quarterfinals will start at 10:30 a.m. followed by the consolation quarterfinals (1 p.m.) and the finals and consolation finals at 2 p.m.

There will be a concession stand in  operation throughout the tournament. Admission is $6 per day.

AAAA Lower State Tournament: Lugoff-Elgin will carry 14 wrestlers to the AAAA Lower State qualifier on Friday and Saturday at Chapin High School.

The first round matches will begin tonight at 5:30 p.m. on four mats with the quarterfinals slated to start at 7:30 p.m.

The wrestling resumes Saturday with the first round consolation matches at 8:30 a.m. followed by the second round consolation matches at 9:30 a.m. The semifinals and the consolation quarterfinals will start at 10:30 a.m. followed by the consolation quarterfinals (12:30 p.m.) and the finals and consolation finals at 1:30 p.m.

There will be a concession stand in  operation throughout the tournament. Admission is $6 per day.

AA-A Upper State Tournament: North Central will travel to Liberty High School today for the two-day AA-A Upper State tourney.

The Knights will send nine wrestlers to the Upstate event.

The first round matches will begin tonight at 5:30 p.m. on four mats with the quarterfinals slated to start at 7p.m. The first round consolation matches will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The wrestling resumes Saturday with the second round consolation matches at 9:30 a.m. followed by the championship semifinals. Following a lunch break, the third round consolation finals will be contested followed by the consolation semifinals and then, the the finals and consolation finals.

There will be a concession stand in  operation Admission is $6 per day.
