On March 18, at the Revolutionary War Visitors Center at Camden, lifelong resident Mike Jones officially declared his candidacy for S.C. State Senate Seat 35 in the upcoming election. In this seat, he would serve portions of Kershaw, Lee, Sumter and Richland counties. He announced his candidacy on the anniversary of his 36-year military career in the Army, thanking friends, family, and supporters for joining him at the announcement.

In a press release issued following the announcement, Jones said that he brings a wealth of experience and a vision for positive change following a distinguished record of service and steadfast commitment to advancing the state’s interests. Throughout his career, the statement said, he has demonstrated a deep-rooted dedication to the betterment of our community. Jones owns several local businesses including Freedom First Outfitters and Jones Insurance Agency. He is also a Kershaw County delegate in the South Carolina Republican Party, vice chairman of the Kershaw County Sherriff’s Citizens Advisory Board, president-elect of the S.C. Army National Guard, and treasurer and an executive board member for Mid-Carolina Credit Union.
