In an effort to encourage Kershaw County residents to shop and dine locally this holiday season, the Kershaw County Chamber applied and was chosen by American Express, to be a Neighborhood Champion, promoting locally-owned independent small businesses on Small Business Saturday, November 29, 2014. The Chamber will also once again be sponsoring their annual "Home for the Holidays" Campaign which will kick off on the Monday following Thanksgiving, December 1, 2014.
On Small Business Saturday, November 29, 2014 between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Chamber staff and volunteers will be set up at Carolina Café and the Palmetto Coffee Shop in Camden, and Sub Station II in Lugoff. During these hours, the first 175 customers to drop by any of these locations and present their receipt(s) totaling $15 or more, spent in a locally-owned independent small business, will receive a free Christmas ornament, courtesy of the Chamber and will be entered into a drawing for American Express gift cards.
Then, beginning on Monday, December first and running through Thursday, December 18th, the chamber will continue to encourage Kershaw County residents to shop local with the kickoff of their "Home for the Holidays" Campaign.
During these dates, individuals are encouraged to bring receipts, totaling $15 or more, spent in any business (large and small) within Kershaw to either your Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce, located at 607 S. Broad Street in Camden, or to one of three First Citizens Bank locations within the County (Elgin, Lugoff and Camden). Residents will be asked to place their name and phone numbers on the back of those receipts.
On December 19th, the Chamber will hold a drawing from those receipts and several winners will be drawn to receive gift certificates or merchandise that has been donated by local Kershaw County merchants. Prizes include, but are not limited to; certificates for services, retail gift cards, restaurant gift certificates and more.
Chamber CEO, Liz Horton, wants to make sure the public is aware that while the promotion/drawing on Small Business Saturday are for purchases made only at locally-owned, independent small businesses, that all purchases over $15 dollars within the County qualify for the drawing on December 19th. "It doesn’t matter whether you fill up your gas tank, purchase groceries at one of our local grocers, purchase a gift, have lunch or dinner at a local restaurant or have maintenance done on your car," she explained, "As long as the purchase is made at a business located in Kershaw County and the total spent is at least $15 dollars, you are eligible to win!"
She also emphasized that there is no limit to the number of receipts a person may enter, therefore the more receipts someone submits, the greater their chances of winning. "There are some fabulous prizes to make your holiday season brighter," Horton said.
"Our local merchants also offer a variety of gift ideas to satisfy your holiday shopping needs. Why make an expensive trip out of town to purchase your holiday gifts which could result in inconvenient and even more expensive returns later on, when our local merchants offer a variety of affordable gift ideas to satisfy your shopping needs?" Horton said of the reasoning behind the contest.
