Camden resident Woody Cleveland is merging his Columbia law practice with Callison Tighe, a multi-faceted Columbia firm, to form a new practice group in banking and commercial finance.

The new group will offer clients full-service banking and finance resources, including conventional bank financing as well as government-guaranteed lending conduits such as the Small Business Administration (SBA). The new group will also handle complex financing for commercial lenders and real estate developers.

"Our merger with Woody Cleveland, who is one of the most well-respected and sought-after commercial lending attorneys in the state, adds value and counsel to our clients," said Mike Tighe, managing partner of Callison Tighe.

Cleveland is a graduate of Davidson College and the University Of South Carolina School Of Law. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 1993 and is co-author of the South Carolina Corporate Practice Manual published by the S.C. Bar Association. His experience includes commercial lending and special assets, bankruptcy and creditors’ rights, and business and corporate practice.

In January of 2000, he became general counsel to Business Development Corporation of South Carolina, one of the state's leading economic development lenders, and subsequently was elected to its board of directors. Since that time, his law firm has closed more than 1,000 SBA and SBA-related loans, approximating $550 million statewide.

These loans are estimated to have created 8,600 jobs throughout South Carolina, including in Kershaw County and surrounding areas. He serves on the boards of the Kershaw Health Foundation and the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation.

Cleveland joins five experienced Callison Tighe attorneys to form the new practice group.

Rick Detwiler, who’s also a Camden resident, is a managing partner of Callison Tighe. The firm practices a variety of legal strategies.
