International Credit Union Day is Thursday, Oct. 16, and this year’s theme is “Local Service. Global Good,” and that’s just what Mid Carolina Credit Union (MCCU) will be doing.

MCCU invites the public to join in some local service by donating to its food drive or stopping by any of its three locations to get some sweets from its branch-wide bake sale to benefit the United Way of Kershaw County. While at an MCCU branch, the credit union is inviting the public to take advantage of its free community shred event. Community residents can bring up to four bankers boxes worth of paperwork to be shredded. No business plans, please.

Shredding will take place at the MCCU branch on Mill Street in Camden from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.; the Lugoff branch, 719 U.S. 1 South, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and the MCCU branch on Main Street in Elgin from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. For more information, call MCCU at 432-8521, or check online at www.midcarolinacu.com.

Also, starting today, residents are invited to check out MCCU’s Facebook page to vote in an ugly apron contest as part of the United Way’s “You Are the Main Ingredient” campaign. The staff member receiving the most votes will win a prize basket of cooking goodies along with a gift -- and one lucky Facebook van voter will win a gift card, too.
