The Tax-Aide program originated in 1986 and continues to grow each year. Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service for individuals with low to moderate incomes, with special attention to persons age 60 or older.
Last year, more than 2 million taxpayers were assisted by trained AARP Tax-Aide volunteers during the February through April tax season. Over 250 individuals and/or families in the Kershaw County area were helped by this program. Tax-Aide volunteers e-filed over 97 percent of prepared returns, resulting in speedier refunds and more accurate filing.
If you have a tax return that is not too complex, you could be assisted also. In the Camden area, the AARP Tax-Aide service is available each Tuesday through April 14.
The tax preparation will be done again this year at the Kershaw Baptist Association Building, 14 East DeKalb St. in Camden. Call 713-9475 to schedule an appointment.
Be sure to bring all documents related to your 2014 income, potential deductions and the Social Security cards for all persons who will be claimed on the tax return. If you bring a copy of last year’s tax return, that will be helpful also.
Also bring any information related to the health care insurance for you and all members of your tax household. There are some new requirements as a result of the 2010 legislation which mandates that persons have health care insurance.
