In a historic church in a historic town, her hand on her family bible, Alfred Mae Drakeford took a historic oath of office. Surrounded by family, friends and well wishers, Drakeford became Camden’s first African American mayor, adding another milestone to an impressive list of accomplishments in her life. Drakeford officially took the oath of office, administered by long-time family friend and Camden attorney, business man, and State Guard Commander Maj. Gen. Thomas Mullikin, during a special ceremony held Friday at Camden First United Methodist Church.
