Camden could get power from new provider

The city of Camden could have a new wholesale electric power provider by the beginning of 2014, possibly ending a years-long relationship with Progress Energy and its predecessor, Carolina Power & Light. During Camden City Council’s Sept. 11 work session, City Manager Kevin Bronson noted that the city’s wholesale power contract with Progress Energy expires on Dec. 31, 2013. Knowing that, Bronson said staff has been meeting with other wholesale providers since the latter half of 2011.
