The Camden Garden Club recently partnered with the city of Camden on a project to provide more colorful flowers in the downtown area. Catherine French, the club’s past president, said the city provided the 16 containers for the plants and pledged to keep them watered, while the garden club furnished the plants, dirt and effort to install the plants along Broad Street.
“We started last year with the hanging baskets. We planted them. The city waters them. That’s our agreement. It’s just a little help for the city of Camden to try to make things nicer downtown,” French said. “By the time they start growing and these plants start cascading over the sides they’re going to look really beautiful.”
French said the garden club selected a variety of annual and perennial flowering plants.
“There’s some greenery we won’t have to replace every year, just some of the flowers. A lot of them are perennials, so they should come back,” she said.
