Camden City Council will meet today at 6 p.m. The relatively short agenda includes a proclamation of June 15 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Also tonight, council will take up second and final reading of an ordinance regulating the use of electronic smoking devices in public places and places of employment. The ordinance amends the city’s existing smoke-free workplace ordinance to include “any product containing or delivering nicotine or any other substance intended for human consumption that can be used by a person in any manner for the purpose of inhaling vapor or aerosol from the product. The term includes any such device, whether manufactured, distributed, marketed or sold as an e-cigarette, e-cigar, e-pipe, e-hookah, or vape pen, or under any other product name or description.”

The prohibition on vape and other such products will go into effect immediately upon passage of tonight’s second reading.

Council will then enter executive session to discuss contractual matters related to economic development. There is an item listed on the agenda that would provide time for council to discuss and even take action on what was discussed in executive session, should members choose to do so.

The meeting will take place on the second floor of Camden City Hall, 1000 Lyttleton St., and is open to the public.
