City negotiating YMCA partnership

It’s not a done deal, but there’s a good chance that if a new recreation center is built in Camden, it will be run by the YMCA of Columbia. If constructed, it would be built on the southern portion of the former Boylan-Haven-Mather Academy site on Campbell Street. Following a short executive session near the beginning of a work session Thursday, Camden City Council instructed City Manager Kevin Bronson and staff to enter into negotiations with the YMCA. Both Bronson and YMCA of Columbia Chief Executive Officer J. Bryan Madden said they believe the partnership will be successful.
