City of Camden receives $1.6 million NIP grant

The city of Camden recently received a $1.6 million by the South Carolina State Housing Authority through its Neighborhood Initiative Program (NIP). The award will facilitate the purchase and removal of blighted residential structures and improvement of parcels in Camden neighborhoods and adjacent properties in Kershaw County. Camden’s grant writing, planning and building staff played a key role in the development of the application, according to City Manager Mel Pearson.
