The city of Camden continues to work on a full response to the Chronicle-Independent’s September S.C. Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for documents and other materials in connection with charges of misconduct in office filed against suspended City Attorney Charles Cushman. In an Oct. 19 letter to the C-I outgoing City Manager Kevin Bronson said that while the city is willing to hand over those documents it knows it can release, there are some materials officials are unsure are legally releasable. The S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) charged Cushman in mid-September, alleging he had dropped Camden Municipal Court charges against an unknown number of defendants in exchange for “donations” into the Camden City Drug Fund.
