City to ‘abandon’ future hotel so developer can get tax credits

As part of the ongoing work between the city of Camden and Kershaw Hospitality LLC to transform the historic Clock Tower Building into the future King Haigler Hotel, Camden City Council will consider a resolution during today’s meeting to certify the structure as an “abandoned building.” Doing so will allow Kershaw Hospitality to apply for state income tax credits under the S.C. Abandoned Buildings Revitalization Act. According to the resolution, the state enacted the act to creative an incentive for the rehabilitation, renovation, and redevelopment of abandoned buildings.
