‘Cotton Returns to Camden’
Dinner-theater style event raises money for JTC’s STEM lab
Cotton 1
Claude Banks (Nathan Greene Jr.) reacts in horror as his old “friend” Ray Gibson (Brian Mayes) rushes into his New York bank office in the Jackson Teen Center’s (JTC) dinner theater production of “Cotton Comes Back to Camden” on Saturday afternoon. Claude had thought he had left Ray’s schemes behind at the end of a similar production in September. Both shows were held to raise money for the JTC’s STEM lab. (Martin L. Cahn/C-I)
A little after 3 p.m. on Saturday, the Jackson Teen Center’s (JTC) Margaret Lopez Dining Hall turned into a 1920s dinner theater called the “Boom Boom Room.” Some 50 to 60 people -- most wearing their dining-out best -- sat in black silk-covered seats at tables set with red-and-black checkerboard tablecloths and centerpieces of either hats with feathers stuck in their bands or martini glasses filled with glass beads, “pearls” and dice.
