Facing cancer with JOY
Scullys on Bench (W)
In this photo taken in December 2017, Joy Claussen-Scully (right) and her husband, former Camden mayor Tony Scully, sit on a Leaders Legacy bench dedicated in their honor in Kirkwood Common. The Scullys moved to Camden in 2005 and quickly became immersed in the arts community and various civic organizations. Thanks to a genetic marker test, Claussen-Scully recently underwent a special immunotherapy treatment to combat Stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer. She is now 95 percent cancer free.
If facing one’s mortality with a certain flair was written as a four-act play, the star would surely be Camden’s Joy Claussen-Scully, a petite 81-year-old Broadway actress whose blue eyes light up the living room of the Ancrum Road home where she lives with her husband and supporting actor, Tony Scully.
