Former Bi-Lo shopping center on council agenda

Camden City Council will take up first reading of an ordinance tonight that, if passed on second and final reading, would annex the former Bi-Lo shopping center off West DeKalb Street with interim zoning of General Business District (GBD). According to a memorandum from City Planner Shawn Putnam attached to tonight’s proposed agenda, the property -- actually listed at 1001 Old River Road -- is contiguous to the city limits. In addition, those surrounding properties already inside the city limits are zoned GBD. The property is 6.73 acres in size and was once known as the Camden Plaza Shopping Center.
