A small group of people met at The ALPHA Center on Tuesday morning to learn some big news: the Hootie & The Blowfish Foundation, the popular music band’s charitable arm, recently awarded an $8,000 grant toward the production of a CD by Kershaw County youth. $8,000 may not sound like much, but it’s what it represents that counts, according to ALPHA Center Executive Director Paul Napper and Jackson Teen Center (JTC) Director Brian Mayes. “They’ll be able to take what’s in their heart -- their feelings, their dreams -- and put them on paper. How to take a story and turn it into a song,” Mayes said.
