King offered to sell gym to city
Proposal was made before Mather purchase

For nearly two months, Atlas Gym owner Charles King has led the charge against the chance the city of Camden might build a new recreation center on a portion of the former site of Boylan-Haven-Mather Academy. What those following his lead might not know -- and the Chronicle-Independent only learned Thursday -- is that King offered to sell Atlas Gym on Gordon Street to the city in December. That was several months before Camden City Council made any public mention of the possibility of purchasing the Mather property or of building a replacement for Rhame City Arena.
