On May 19, the city of Camden ran a notice announcing a special Camden Planning Commission public hearing for 6 p.m. Monday, June 5 to receive input on pending annexation of 1001 Old River Road. During Tuesday night’s Camden City Council meeting, Mayor Alfred Mae Drakeford confirmed that address is the vacant shopping center that once housed Bi-Lo and other stores just off the intersection of West DeKalb and Wylie streets. “We finally got papers signed to annex Bi-Lo,” Drakeford said during a discussion of a new marketing retail/restaurant strategy being presented by City Tourism/Economic Development Director Suzi Sale.
