Mel Pearson will become Camden’s new city manager, dropping the word “interim” from the title he’s held since Jan. 4 when former City Manager Kevin Bronson left for Rock Hill. Camden City Council unanimously passed first reading of an ordinance authorizing Mayor Tony Scully to negotiate a contract with Pearson during a special called meeting Tuesday evening. Pearson’s contract will be effective Feb. 26 when council is expected to pass second and final reading of the ordinance at its next regular meeting.
