On a split, 4-1, vote Tuesday morning, Camden City Council chose to move forward with a “full facility” option for the proposed construction of a new sports complex. That complex is likely to be managed by the YMCA of Columbia. The vote came at the end of a more than two-hour-long meeting, following a public forum featuring six speakers, four of whom spoke in favor of the project; a unanimous vote to request the actual signatures on a petition to hold a referendum on the matter; and a presentation of findings by council’s Sports Complex Advisory Committee (SCAC).
