Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) patrol cars follow a hearse on West DeKalb Street in Camden Thursday morning while on its way to Bethune carrying the body of former KCSO investigator Lt. Phil Crawford. Crawford, who started as a road deputy with the KCSO in 1997 after working in Bishopville and Lee County, went to work as a criminal investigator and polygraph examiner for Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) in 2010. He medically retired from the LCSO after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gherig’s Disease).
