After a search spanning nearly 40 hours, crews from local and state agencies found the body of a missing Sumter man on Monday morning in the Wateree River approximately one-half mile from where he disappeared. Authorities said Michael Adell Kolb, 47, disappeared around 5 p.m. Saturday from Patriot’s Landing, the boat ramp and dock below the U.S. 1 bridge crossing the river and connecting Camden with Lugoff. The exact circumstances of Kolb’s death are still under investigation, but S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) spokesman Robert McCollough said it is believed Kolb was swimming in the river alongside a small boat that DNR’s Shean Coates said Kolb and a friend had just launched from a trailer into the water Saturday afternoon.
