Counterfeit checks seized by ICE, KCSO

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents and Kershaw County deputies arrested Norman Elliott, 63, at his Lugoff home Sunday after he received a package containing 199 counterfeit checks from Nigeria with a declared value of over $554,000. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents intercepted the package upon entry into the United States and contacted the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) with a request for assistance in the investigation, reported Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews. ICE agents and KCSO deputies executed a controlled delivery of the checks to Elliott’s home where they subsequently seized an additional 21 counterfeit checks with a declared value of $49,298.14, Matthews said.
