In a press release issued late Thursday morning, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of Robert Walter Conant, 57, of Lugoff, on 10 charges connected to the sexual exploitation of a minor. Wilson said the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force investigators with the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office made the arrest. Investigators with the Attorney General’s Office and United States Secret Service, also members of the state’s ICAC Task Force, assisted with the investigation, he said.
According to Wilson, investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) which led them to Conant. Investigators said Conant possessed multiple files of child pornography.
Wilson said investigators arrested Conant on Dec. 28, 2018. He is charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, third degree, each of which is a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment.
The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.
Wilson stressed all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
