Couple charged with unlawful neglect of 7-month-old

The S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) arrested a Cassatt couple Friday and charged each with unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person. According to a SLED press release, Elizabeth Jade Napper, 22, and Jonathan Daniel Smith, 32, both of Marshall Road, Cassatt, face up to 10 years in prison, fine set at the discretion of the court, or both. According to copies of SLED’s warrants accompanying the press release, Napper and Smith are identically accused of, between Sept. 2, 2016, and April 7, 2017, placing their 7-month-old child in “unreasonable risk of harm by inflicting life-threatening injuries and/or not seeking medical attention for these injuries.
