The Camden Police Department (CPD) arrested Christopher Andrew Vandegrift, 20, of Chesnut Street, Camden, on Thursday afternoon and charged him with unlawful conduct towards a child for allegedly abusing a 4-month-old girl.

According to a statement issued by the CPD, officers were dispatched to KershawHealth’s emergency department on Thursday to investigate significant bruising to the face and head of the infant girl.

“The infant had been under the care of Chris Vandegrift, who was babysitting for the child’s parents, at an apartment located on Chesnut Street,” the CPD said in the press release.

They later arrested Vandegrift and took him to the Kershaw County Detention Center.

Vandegrift is being held on $50,000 bond.
