The Camden Police Department (CPD) and S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are investigating a fatal shooting on Dicey Ford Road that took place late Wednesday morning.

CPD Chief Joe Floyd said that CPD officers and Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies responded to a home on Dicey Ford Road between Lyttleton Street and Perkins Lane around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. They quickly cut off access to that block in order to secure the scene and protect citizens.

“After speaking with witnesses and approaching the house, we were able to communicate with an elderly woman inside the home,” Floyd said. “She said a man entered the home and shot another woman inside and then shot himself.”

The chief said that after officers got the woman out of the home and made sure she was safe, the KCSO’s entry team and EMS personnel entered the home.

“EMS verified there were two bodies inside,” Floyd said.

Around 1:30 p.m., Floyd said SLED and the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office was on the scene conducting their investigations.

Wednesday evening, Kershaw County Coroner David West issues a press release stating the deceased were a husband and wife, identified them as Josephine Barton and Kovac Bynum, both of Columbia, and that the shooting took place inside a family member’s home. He said the CPD and SLED are continuing the investigation along with his office.
