Phone scammers worked hard over Christmas

An employee of a downtown Camden restaurant called police Tuesday, Dec. 23 after receiving a phone call she suspected was an attempted scam. A Camden Police Department (CPD) report said a man called the business and said he was the general manager for a local electric cooperative and the restaurant had a past due bill of $1,400 that had to be paid immediately or the electric service would be cut off. The woman told officers the man told her to go to a local drug store and purchase a "green dot money pack" to use to make payment and he would then give her more instructions on how to make the payment.
