Elgin couple charged with fraud and filing a false report

An Elgin couple has been arrested on numerous charges after Elgin Police determined they falsely reported the theft of $12,000 worth of jewelry from their home and collected an insurance settlement for the case. According to a press release from Elgin Police Chief Harold Brown, Leonard Talbert Johnson and Donna Marie Johnson have been charged with filing a false police report, insurance fraud and conspiracy to commit a felony. They reportedly claimed the jewelry was stolen from their home in the Pine Forest community in July 2014.
