Elgin man named as suspect in Columbia shooting

An Elgin man ended up in the hospital after being shot the morning of Aug. 14 by S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) troopers in Columbia following a chase on I-20 that ended in Columbia’s Five Points district. SCHP spokeswoman Sherri Iacobelli identified the suspect as Scott Parker Hanson, 41, of Loblolly Road, Elgin which, according to online mapping sites, is located in the Tall Pines subdivision off White Pond Road. According to the SCHP, Sr. Trooper S.M. Groubert stopped Hanson who passed him at a high rate of speed on I-20 in Richland County around 8:15 a.m. Aug. 14.
