Fifth Circuit Solicitor indicted on federal fraud charges

South Carolina’s U.S. District Attorney announced Tuesday that a grand jury has indicted outgoing Fifth Circuit Solicitor Dan Johnson, 49, and his director of communications, Nicole Holland, 49, on 26 counts of wire and mail fraud, conspiracy to commit both and the theft of federal funds. In a press release issued Tuesday evening, U.S. Attorney Sherri A. Lydon stated that Johnson and Holland could face a maximum of 20 years with a potential $250,000 fine for the wire fraud, mail fraud and conspiracy charges. Lydon said the maximum penalty for the theft of federal funds charge is a maximum 10-year prison sentence and also a potential fine of $250,000.
