Water is a firefighter’s friend, so a little rain Saturday morning didn’t stop the fire trucks from rolling down Broad Street in parade formation to the 16th annual Fire Fest at Rhame Arena. Families toured rows of fire trucks and firefighting equipment, and youngsters romped on an inflatable slide and bounce house. Inside the arena, the competition heated up as firefighters -- dressed in full gear -- competed in challenges that simulated the tasks they must perform in the line of duty, including dragging a life-sized “victim,” dragging hoses and chopping.
