A former city of Camden Department of Public Works employee, Barbara Currie, 72, of White Pines Circle, Camden, died Thursday from injuries suffered in a house fire on Saturday, March 31. According to a press release issued by Kershaw County Coroner David West, Currie died Thursday evening from carbon monoxide poisoning and smoke inhalation.
West said Kershaw County Fire Service (KCFS) responded to the house fire in east Camden around 12:15 p.m. March 31. He said Currie was still in the house when firefighters arrived on the scene.
“The fire service got her out and EMS transported her to KershawHealth,” West said in the press release. “She was then transferred to the Augusta Burn Center in Georgia where she died.”
West said Currie had been retired from the city of Camden for about a year.
A cause for the fire has not been disclosed.
