Found guilty in February of using excessive force on a man in his custody, former Kershaw County Sheriff’s Sgt. Oddie Tribble was sentenced Monday to just more than five years in prison and three years of supervised release. Tribble, 51, was also ordered by U.S. District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie to pay restitution of $5,000 to Charles Shelley, the victim. Shelley, while handcuffed, was struck 27 times by an asp baton wielded by Tribble outside the Kershaw County Detention Center on Aug. 5, 2010.
