A Columbia gang member arrested by Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies in January will spend the next 85 months -- more than seven years -- in prison after pleading guilty Wednsday in federal court to being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. According to a press release from South Carolina U.S. Attorney Beth Drake, Jacquel Dimitri Sumter, 23, will spend the 85 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Evidence presented at Wednesday’s plea and sentencing hearing established that, on Jan. 21, KCSO deputies saw a blue Honda CRV traveling at approximately 105 mph near mile marker 100 on I-20.
