Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) Sgt. Kyle Hewitt, his wife, Katie, and their four sons attended the department’s annual Christmas party Dec. 12 at the Kershaw County Government Center. According to colleagues, Hewitt had been told to attend the gathering not merely for the camaraderie with fellow officers and their families, but because one of the fellow deputies on his shift was being named Deputy of the Year by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Foundation (KCSF). So, when Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews called out his name as KCSF’s 2015 Deputy of the Year, Hewitt’s face, understandably, showed a bit of surprise.
