A man accused of having sex with a 14-year-old Kershaw County girl he met online is in jail after being located by Lexington County authorities.
According to a Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) press release, the girl’s mother notified deputies that her daughter had met Chad Michael Rabon, 23, a registered sex offender, online. The mother told deputies that her daughter admitted to having sexual relations with Rabon on two occasions at a home in Kershaw County.
The girl’s mother said her daughter’s cell phone contained text messages from Rabon that indicated an improper relationship. Other social networking messages also confirmed this. The KCSO investigator working the case arranged for a forensic interview of the young girl. Based on that interview and “significant additional evidence,” the investigator obtained a warrant charging Rabon with two counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor between the ages of 11 and 14.
The investigator also determined that Rabon is a convicted sex offender from Lexington County, having been previously charged with and convicted of criminal solicitation of a 12-year-old girl in August 2009 in Lexington County.
Law enforcement released Rabon’s fugitive status to Crimestoppers on June 25. Thursday, Lexington County authorities located and arrested Rabon. He is currently being detained at the Lexington County Detention Center with a hold on him from Kershaw County. Lexington County also placed a probation hold on him.
“The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department worked hand in hand with our investigator in trying to locate and apprehend Rabon,” Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said. “Close working relationships with other law enforcement agencies are crucial to our success and resulted in getting this sex offender off the streets.”
Rabon will be transported to the Kershaw County Detention Center at a later date where he will be detained pending a bond hearing.
