Lugoff Fire Department (LFD) resources were stretched thin Wednesday afternoon when a severe thunderstorm ran through the community causing numerous issues that included lightning strikes, ripped down power lines blocking roads, flooding rains closing roads, trees knocked down over roadways and in yards, strong winds, hail, and activated fire alarms. According to a LFD press release, fire crews began responding around 4 p.m. beginning with a fire alarm at Lugoff Elementary School. Battalion 1, Ladder 10 and Engine 10 arrived to find some areas of the school flooded with water from more than 4 inches of rain that fell during the storm as well as electrical system damage from a lightning strike.
