The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Foundation (KCSF) Board of Directors is accepting 2019 nominations for the “Leonard Price Friend of Law Enforcement Award.” The award was established in 2012 to recognize the support of Kershaw County residents for the Sheriff’s Office. The award was named after the late Leonard Price, a former resident of the North Central area of Kershaw County, who invested heavily in supporting law enforcement.

“Public support of law enforcement is more important now than ever,” said Steve Zobel, chairman of the KCSF Board. “Kershaw County residents have strongly supported the men and women of the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office. We want to thank and honor those citizens who have stepped up to help.”

The 2018 award recipient was William “Bill” Heil, who received the award posthumously. Heil organized and chartered Larry Jeffers American Legion Post No. 195 and became its adjutant. He served in the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Reserve, and the S.C. National Guard. When the sheriff’s office was faced with a severe ammunition shortage for training purposes with no funds in the budget, Heil -- in his capacity at the American Legion and on separate occasions -- donated thousands of rounds of handgun ammunition to the sheriff’s office. He was a huge supporter of not only the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office but of law enforcement in general. Heil was a driving force behind the support that the American Legion continues to provide to the sheriff’s office.

The KCSF is looking for public input for its 2019 honoree, and hopes people will take the time to nominate those in from the community who strongly support the men and women who serve and protect us.
